Navi Mumbai High-Speed Chase Leads to Arrest

On the night of February 10, 2025, during routine patrols in Panvel, police officers spotted a man resembling the individual captured on CCTV footage stealing an auto-rickshaw. When officers attempted to intercept him, the suspect tried to flee in an auto-rickshaw, prompting a 4-kilometer chase. With assistance from local residents, the police successfully apprehended Khan.

Confession and Recovery of Stolen Vehicles

Upon interrogation, Khan confessed to stealing 18 auto-rickshaws over the past year from areas including Panvel town, Kalamboli, and Kamothe. He admitted to selling these vehicles in Buldhana district. Acting on this information, a police team was dispatched to Buldhana, where all 18 stolen auto-rickshaws, valued at approximately ₹12.45 lakh, were recovered. Authorities are still working to ascertain the ownership details of one rickshaw, as its chassis and engine numbers had been erased.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are investigating whether Khan operated alone or had accomplices in the vehicle theft racket. Efforts are also underway to identify potential buyers of the stolen auto-rickshaws and to determine if Khan was involved in similar crimes in other regions.

This arrest marks a significant step in addressing vehicle thefts in Navi Mumbai. Authorities urge auto-rickshaw owners to take necessary precautions and report any suspicious activities to help curb such incidents.
